![]() ![]() There was a nice open-air gym on a higher floor that was set up for use (not sure if this was due to COVID or otherwise, but it was a great resource), but otherwise I had limited time to explore the other common areas. Every staff member I interacted with was warm and helpful, and each interactions – whether it was room service, valet or front desk – went off without a hitch. While many hotels in the area are understaffed at the moment, you could not tell at the Taj Campton Place. The design was fairly plain with neutral colors, but the designers did a great job of including everything you could want in a room despite the low square footage. Next to the king-sized bed was a desk and at the end of the bed was a small sofa. The bedroom had a comfortable window seat (by the only window) and a large built-in wardrobe and minibar. The bathroom, for example, had a nice separate soaking tub and generously-sized limestone shower despite limited space. The room itself was small, but incredibly efficient with its layout. I stayed at the hotel in late October and was in a Deluxe King Room (second lowest category). It features great service, well-appointed rooms and is home to the one-Michelin starred restaurant, Campton Place. The Taj Campton Place is a relatively small urban hotel located one block from Union Square in San Francisco. There's no good reason for this policy, and it provides for a somewhat jarring "go-on-hurry-and-get-out-of-here" experience. (3) The hotel's WiFi didn't know anything about our late check-out and threw us out at 12pm sharp. An electric kettle or a small microwave, or even a carafe of hot water in the lobby would have easily solved this problem. If you run it without the coffee cartridge it results in a small cup of beige water with coffee grounds floating in it. To make the $30 resort fee worthwhile perhaps Taj could maybe at least upgrade to EconoLodge-level amenities and have coffee in the lobby throughout the day? (2) There are tea bags in the room, but there's no way to boil water! The Nespresso machine is not designed to produce hot water for tea. I came downstairs at 8:30 and the coffee was already gone. Basically there was one carafe put out in the morning and once it's gone, it's gone. I will come back just for the reading nook!! A few minor details to improve: (1) Coffee in the lobby. The soaker tub was absolutely fantastic, and a reading nook overlooking the city was a great touch. Had a great experience at Taj Campton, for a weekend staycation with my wife! It is an absolutely beautiful boutique hotel, centrally located, with great staff, tasty food and luxurious rooms. ![]()
